Kinja'd!!!

It’s long been a dream of mine to replicate the Top Gear journey across Vietnam, and come April, I get my shot!

I’ma rock up and buy a motorbike and have an adventure.

My question for the moto crew out there is this -
We’ll be travelling as a duo, riding our motorcycles and wearing helmets. Particularly at higher speeds, I imagine communication will be difficult.

Is there some sort of off-the-shelf radio/comms thing I can buy that would be ideal for this situation? Basically so if we’re hooning along the highway between cities at 60 km/h we can hear each other.

I want something that works; i.e. not the cheapest eBay thing that has audio quality too poor to be useful. At the same time I don’t want to spend $500 on a gold-plated ICOM solution.

Any tips welcome - thanks Oppos <3

I have no experience with coms, but I would think any decent system would run close to $400-500. The cheapest, full face helmets with no coms run close to $200. A good helmet with no coms is gonna run you $300-400.

Me and my riding buddies all use Sena, it works pretty good as long as there are 4 or fewer people on the line.

Sena and cardo both make what you want. Expect to pay 200 to 500 bucks. Read reviews and take into careful consideration the comms range. If you end up in the mountains like on top gear, you could end up with range issues if you get something cheap

No useful advice from me but following in TG’s tire tracks in Vietnam is a bucket list item for me as well. Enjoy.

Not helpful but..  I wanted to drive through Lucca in a tiny rental car just like top gear did. It was great. Then months later I got the traffic tickets by certified mail.

Sorry you didn’t get to go, yes I drove all over in Lucca where you need a local resident permit of course a lot of the show was set up for them to get into such narrow areas and they didn’t follow the 1 way signs to make better tv. It was worth the fine.
